  • Where is the studio?
The studio address is The Gold Starling 12 Church Street Llangefni Isle of Anglesey LL77 7DU You will find the studio between Môn Barbers and Creative Hair Salon, less than a minutes walk away from the bus stop and post office on Church Street.
  • When is the studio open?
As a private studio I have the luxury of being able to be somewhat flexible with opening hours, but generally appointments are between 10:00 and 18:00.
  • Is the studio accessible to wheelchair users?
Unfortunately not; the treatment rooms and bathroom are upstairs and the building cannot be modified to provide a wheelchair lift.
  • Is there parking available?
There are a few pay and display car parks in Llangefni which are operated by the council including the Town Hall car park (short stay towards the front of the car park and long stay at the back), Station Yard Car Park and The Dingle Car Park, all are a short walking distance away.
  • What payment methods are accepted?
At this time I accept only cash and bank transfers within the studio.
  • Can I just call in to enquire?
To give each client the attention they deserve the studio is by appointment only, please feel welcome to schedule an appointment to avoid disappointment. You are of course more than welcome to try your luck and if I am available at the time I will do my best to help.
  • How much are consultations?
I don't charge for consultations but if you go ahead and book a tattoo or piercing you will be required to pay a booking fee appropriate to the time you're booking out. Piercing booking fee - £20 Tattoo booking fee - £30 to 150
  • Do you sell aftercare products in the studio?
Yes! If you are getting pierced or tattooed provided there is some available you will be given either a balm for your tattoo or a bottle of sterile saline solution for your new piercing, except in the case of tongue piercings where it isn't necessary. Otherwise I do have them available to buy either in the studio or on the website.
  • Can I bring a friend? Are minors allowed in the studio during appointments?
Unfortunately I'm unable to accommodate extra guests within the studio except for parents/legal guardians accompanying children being pierced and carers/translators. If you do need somebody with you please get in touch so that we can discuss your requirements. I cannot allow clients to bring their children with them whilst getting tattooed or pierced.
  • Do you offer gift vouchers?
Yes! Physical gift vouchers are available online and within the studio. For a short while I will be accepting vouchers previously purchased from The Caged Fox.
  • What are your studios hygiene practises?
Safety is so incredibly important to me, for the sake of clients and myself. The studio is completely disposable, which means that any tools including needles, cartridges, grips and tapers, which come into contact with clients are single use. The studio is cleaned daily and treatment areas are cleaned and disinfected thoroughly between clients. If you do have any specific questions about hygiene practises please feel welcome to get in touch.
  • Do you offer both tattoos and piercings in the same appointment?
If you would like to get tattooed and pierced on the same day please let me know so that I can allow enough time for it. Bear in mind that the more you get done the more you're asking your body to heal, and getting pierced after a full day of getting tattooed won't be much fun for either of us, sometimes it is best to schedule two appointments so that it is more comfortable.
  • How long have you been tattooing/piercing for?
I have been tattooing and piercing since 2010, but I am always learning and passionate about improving both in tattooing, piercing and providing the best and safest experience I can.
  • Can I get tattooed/pierced if I am pregnant or breasfeeding?
For the health and safety of you and your baby I will not tattoo or pierce during pregnancy. Breastfeeding is a tricky one! I would recommend avoiding getting tattooed or pierced for a good few months at least after having your baby; your body is doing plenty as it is and asking it to heal something new is a lot to ask of it. As you are breaking the skin during tattooing and piercing there will always be the risk of infection, for this reason I would advise against getting tattooed or pierced whilst breastfeeding. I understand that some mothers prefer to be led by their children in how long they breastfeed for, in some cases for many years. In that case I would recommend letting me know prior to booking in so we can discuss whether going ahead with your tattoo is piercing is right for you and your child. I would absolutely recommend against wearing jewellery in pierced nipples if you are breastfeeding as it is a choking hazard.
  • Can I get a tattoo or piercing if I'm on medication or have a medical condition?
Please get in touch to discuss if you think you may not be able to get tattooed or pierced due to a health condition that you have, each and every person and each and every health condition is unique. It may be safer to discuss with your doctor or consultant first, and your health and safety will always come first before getting tattooed.
  • Do you offer body modifications other than tattoos and piercings?
No, in the UK it is not legal to offer body modifications and even if it were I would not be comfortable doing so.
  • How do I book an appointment?
I would always recommend a consultation so that we can meet in person and discuss your ideas in detail, we can then go ahead and find you a suitable appointment to get tattooed. I usually schedule out thirty minutes for a consultation but the time it takes varies from person to person, it may be as quick as ten minutes or we may need to schedule another consultation to discuss ideas further in depth after some time to think. If you don't feel you are ready there is no pressure to book in. If what you would like is very straight forward and you don’t think you would need to discuss your ideas, if you would be travelling a fair distance or if you feel uncomfortable discussing your ideas in person please feel welcome to get in touch so that we can arrange an alternative way of booking in to get tattooed.
  • Do you have any age restrictions for getting tattooed?
Yes, in the UK you must be 18+ to get tattooed, you would need photo ID if you are fortunate enough to appear under the age of 25. If you don't have a driving license/provisional or valid passport then UK citizen card is easy to get and affordable. If you do not have valid photo ID with you when you come for your appointment then your appointment will be cancelled and you will need to pay the booking fee again to rebook.
  • Do you accept walk-ins?
I work by appointment only and usually do book up a little in advance so it is unlikely that I would be able to accommodate short notice appointments but you are more than welcome to get in touch to see if I have availability.
  • How far in advance should I book?
Availability can vary throughout the year and depends on the time that you would need and the days of the week you are available (Saturdays usually book further ahead) but if you have an idea that you would like to get tattooed please feel welcome to get in touch as soon as you like. The wait for an appointment at this time isn't too bad, approximately 4-10 weeks but if you've already had a consultation and are booked in it is a lot easier to take advantage of cancellations if they come up.
  • Do I need to pay a deposit?
I would need you to pay a booking fee to secure an appointment to get tattooed, the cost of the booking fee varies depending on the amount of time you book out, between £30 for a small tattoo and £150 for the full day. If you are starting a larger tattoo which may require more than one session to complete then the booking fee rolls from one appointment to the other. The booking fee does come off of the total cost of your tattoo once completed provided none of the terms and conditions of the booking fee are broken. Booking fees and additional payments are non-refundable. By paying the booking fee you are committing to paying for the time booked out on the day of your appointment. To reserve time to get tattooed you must pay a non refundable booking fee, which will need to be paid again to schedule a new appointment if: You do not attend your booked appointment(s) You do not give at least 72 hours, or three days notice to reschedule, either by email or facebook/instagram message. You arrive under the influence of alcohol or drugs You appear under the age of 25 and do not bring photo ID There are significant design changes too close to your appointment(s) to be accommodated; significant design changes will require another consultation prior to getting tattooed You’re significantly late for your appointment(s) If you do need to rearrange your appointment please get in touch as soon as possible so that I can accommodate your request.
  • What is your cancellation/rescheduling policy?
If you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment please give me as much notice as you can. You will need to pay the booking fee again to reschedule if: You do not attend your booked appointment(s) You do not give at least 72 hours, or three days notice to reschedule, either by email or Facebook/Instagram message. You arrive under the influence of alcohol or drugs You appear under the age of 25 and do not bring photo ID There are significant design changes too close to your appointment(s) to be accommodated; significant design changes will require another consultation prior to getting tattooed You’re significantly late for your appointment(s) Please bear in mind that the booking fee and any additional payments are non refundable.
  • How do you price your tattoos?
The minimum charge is £80. The hourly rate is £80. Half day of three hours - £240 Comfortable day of five hours - £400 Full day of six hours - £480 Long day of seven hours - £560 If you would like an estimate on how much a tattoo might cost please feel welcome to book an in person consultation, that way we can discuss your ideas properly and I can give you a rough idea based on how long I believe it might take. If you have a budget please feel welcome to let me know.
  • Do you do cover ups?
I do! Some tattoos are definitely worth lasering first however to achieve the best results. If you would like to discuss a cover up please get in touch!
  • Will I see my design before hand, if so when?
I will do my best to send you an idea to have a look at within the week prior to your appointment, though within a couple of days is usual. A consultation before booking in usually means that going ahead we are on the same page and changes to be made, if there are any are minimal. If you do change your mind about what you would like to get tattooed please give me as much notice as you can so that we can have a proper chat about what you would like.
  • How should I prepare for my tattoo session? What should I bring?
I want you to have the nicest time possible so please try to make sure that before your tattoo you Avoid drinking alcohol or taking recreational drugs the days leading up to your appointment, but especially the night before. Try to get a decent nights sleep. Avoid sunburn. Eat a decent breakfast. Bring valid photo ID with you if you appear under the age of 25. If you're feeling like you would really would like to take care of yourself before getting tattooed it definitely can help to make sure that you arrive to your appointment clean, exfoliated (even just drying off well with a clean dry towel does a nice job of exfoliating) and moisturised. Please avoid shaving the area yourself prior to getting tattooed, especially if it isn't something you would normally do in the area. I have seen folks mutilate themselves horribly in this way and I'd rather not again! Please feel welcome to bring pyjamas, comfy clothing or even a blanket or pillow with you, but bear in mind that there is always going to be the potential to get ink or blood on them so don't bring anything too precious, make sure that they are clean and that you have something to take them away with where the studio surfaces and furniture can't be contaminated such as a big plastic shopping bag. Please feel welcome to bring snacks, lunch and a bottled drink with you, whilst regulations mean that we cannot eat or drink in the treatment rooms we can stop for a break so you're well fed and hydrated. If you would like to bring headphones, a book or something else with you to keep you occupied please feel welcome to do so, just be mindful of keeping still whilst you're getting tattooed.
  • Do you use vegan ink?
I do! The majority of inks available are vegan friendly. I also do my best to ensure that where I can I use environmentally friendly supplies.
  • Can I bring my own design?
I am more than happy to create a design for you, I do love being able to make something especially for the individual client. If you have something specific in mind or already have a design ready please feel welcome to get in touch and we can discuss it.
  • What should I wear to my appointment?
Please wear clothes that you are comfortable in, and that you aren't too precious about getting ink on! Bear in mind I will need to be able to get to the area you're getting tattooed easily so if you're getting your leg tattooed for example you may want to bring shorts with you or even loose and comfy pyjama bottoms. If you're getting your arm tattooed I may need access to your full arm and shoulder so a vest may be more comfortable for you than removing a tight t-shirt. If you're getting your back tattooed and want to stay warm and modest then a zip up hoodie worn backwards can work really well. If you aren't sure please feel welcome to get in touch and ask!
  • Do you numb it? Can I use numbing cream?
We do not provide numbing and recommend against the use of numbing creams; they are often purchased online and their ingredients are unregulated and can be dangerous, we absolutely want you to be comfortable whilst getting tattooed but definitely not at the expense of your health.
  • Do you offer touch ups?
Yes! If you've been tattooed by me please let me know how it has healed and if need be we can schedule a touch up to make sure it looks just perfect. If it has been more than six months since you were tattooed please bear in mind there may be a charge.
  • Does it hurt?
It can hurt to get tattooed, though usually it isn't so bad. It definitely helps to get a good nights sleep the night before your appointment, to make sure you eat breakfast and stay hydrated. If you're feeling well in yourself then it's usually very manageable.
  • I don't want anyone seeing my body, can I have privacy?
Certainly, I tattoo in a private room and if you wouldn't like photos of your tattoo being taken or published online please just let me know. I want you to be as comfortable as possible!
  • How do I take care of my new tattoo?
It is important that you look after your new tattoo properly, as not doing so can increase the risk of infection, the tattoo being ruined and the likelihood of scarring. I will apply a dressing before you leave the studio, and give specific advice depending on the location of your tattoo. If available I will provide an aftercare balm too! If I have applied an adhesive dressing you will need to look out for any irritation from the adhesive, leaking and if the dressing becomes full of plasma/blood/ink. If any of these happen remove the dressing as soon as possible. If you experience no irritation or leaking and the dressing doesn’t fill too much or look dirty then it can be removed the day after being applied. Remove the dressing under running water by pulling the edges over into the centre of the dressing. Once the dressing has been removed lather up some soap in your hands and wash your tattoo carefully and gently. Use a soap that you’re familiar with and that you know does not irritate your skin and which isn’t shared with other members of your household. It is normal that when the dressing is removed for the tattoo to be gooey. The first time you wash it you may need to wash it twice to ensure that all plasma and excess ink is removed. If after washing twice it still appears gooey or wet make sure you remove the goo properly but gently with clean kitchen roll. It is very important at this stage to ensure that all blood and plasma are cleaned away. DO NOT SOAK YOUR NEW TATTOO. Once you have washed your tattoo make sure you dry it thoroughly and gently with either a clean towel which isn’t shared within your household or clean kitchen roll, which can be disposed of immediately after and not reused. You will need to keep your tattoo clean throughout the healing process. It will need to be cleaned a few times a day with soap and water, again do not soak it. Ensure after washing that you dry it completely before moisturising. You can continue to use a second skin dressing following the manufacturers instructions, but provided the tattoo is kept clean and moisturised for the remainder of the healing period it should heal beautifully. Moisturise your tattoo as required, usually after it’s been cleaned, dried and then starts to feel tight. You only need a little, using too much moisturiser can act like soaking it. You only need the thinnest layer. It is important whilst healing that you do not get it dirty; avoid animal hair, dust and dirt getting into your new tattoo. Do not soak your tattoo; don’t go swimming, use hot tubs, steam rooms etc, and don’t use sun beds or expose your tattoo to direct sunlight. While healing this can ruin your new tattoo. Though it can be quite itchy while healing please do not pick at or scratch your tattoo, this can damage your tattoo permanently and scar you. Looking after you skin will ensure that your tattoo will stay beautiful for life; avoid direct sunlight as it can fade tattoos horribly, use sun block. Maintaining a healthy diet, staying hydrated and moisturising regularly should ensure healthy skin and therefore your tattoos will look better for longer. If you have any questions or concerns please get in touch immediately.
  • Do you specialise in certain styles of tattooing?
I love working in realism in both black and grey and in colour, I also love tattooing portraits of both people and animals or pets but I'm not asked anywhere near often enough for either. If you would like to get a portrait please do ask me! I also absolutely love large scale work which flows beautifully with the body, I find it immensely satisfying to do a piece which moves beautifully when you do.
  • What should I do if my tattoo gets infected?
If you have a problem with your tattoo or you have any concerns at all please contact the studio immediately and I will do my best to help. Infections are rare but can happen, if it appears that you do have an infection I would always recommend visiting your doctor. Signs to watch out for include excessive pain, swelling, redness, spots or what appears to be a rash. If you suspect an infection do not delay in getting help!
  • How can I book in?
Please feel welcome to use the link to book in, or alternatively if you have questions you would like to ask first get in touch and I'll do my best to help!
  • What age restrictions do you have to get pierced?
I take care to make sure that each of our clients is old enough and mature enough to take care of their new piercings, and of course we don't want school making you take your new piercings out as soon as they're spotted! We are quite strict but it is for your safety. We will pierce ear lobes from 8 years old, but we will always consult with younger clients prior to piercing to ensure they are comfortable getting pierced. The client must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, with valid photographic ID for the parent/guardian such as a passport, drivers license or UK citizen card and proof of parental responsibility such as a copy of the birth certificate with both names on. If at any point they decide they do not want to get pierce the appointment will be stopped, we will under no circumstances force anybody to be pierced. We will pierce ear cartilage, navels, nostrils and eyebrows from 16 years old; valid, photographic proof of ID will be required such as a passport, drivers license or UK citizen card. You must be over 18 for nipple and tongue piercings. If you are fortunate enough to look under the age of 25 please remember to bring ID with you. If you have any questions at all please feel welcome to get in touch!
  • Do you accept walk-ins?
I work by appointment only and usually do book up a little in advance so it is unlikely that I would be able to accommodate short notice appointments but you are more than welcome to get in touch to see if I have availability.
  • How far in advance should I book?
Availability can vary throughout the year and depends on the time that you would need and the days of the week you are available (Saturdays usually book further ahead) but appointments are usually available within a day to a couple of weeks. If you need help with something urgently please get in touch and I will see if I can stay late to help.
  • How much is it?
Please note that the booking fee of £20 on the website is not the total cost, with jewellery your piercing will cost more. Our prices include classic polished implant grade jewellery from reputable manufacturers of body jewellery including Industrial Strength, Anatometal, LeRoi, Neometal and Junipurr. The total cost will depend on jewellery that you chose as we do have a rather nice selection available, gems and gold will cost more. The cost includes a can of sterile saline solution with which to clean your new piercing(s), but not in the case of tongue piercings where the aftercare does not require saline solution. If you do have a budget please just let me know! Ear lobe - £40, £65 for a pair Ear cartilage with straight post - £40, £65 for a pair Ear cartilage with curved or circular bar (rook or daith) - £55 Scaffold - £55 Eyebrow - £55 Nostril - £40, £65 for a pair Septum - £55 Lip - £40, £65 for a pair Tongue - £50 Navel - £55 Nipple - £50, £85 for a pair
  • How do you ensure that the piercing is safe and sterile?
I maintain a cleaning regime in the studio for all spaces, and treatment rooms are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between clients. Additionally the studio is fully disposable which means that all tools used in your piercing are single use and disposed of immediately after your appointment. All jewellery used for piercings is cleaned prior to your appointment in an ultrasonic cleaner to make sure there is no dust or polishing compound left on your jewellery from the manufacturing process and is either autoclaved in a sealed pouch and ready for when you arrive or run through a seven minute autoclave cycle if it us a solid piece of jewellery from the display (for example that stunning diamond that caught your eye!). I try to use an aseptic technique during piercing using a sterile field which any equipment is placed into without being touched and using sterile gloves to perform your piercing. If you have any further questions about health and safety please feel welcome to get in touch!
  • How do I look after my new piercing?
It is very important to care for your new piercing correctly so that you end up with the perfect piercing and avoid infection and irritation. For most piercings you will be provided with a sterile saline solution with which to clean your piercing. Avoid touching your new piercing unnecessarily, if for example you need to tighten the jewellery please wash your hands thoroughly before and after with an antibacterial hand wash. How to clean your new non-oral piercing You will be provided with a bottle of sterile saline solution, you can clean it simply by spraying the area gently from a short distance. While your piercing heals you are likely to secrete a clear fluid which will dry to form a crust, this is lymph and shouldn’t be mistaken for an infection. Any build up of lymph crust can be removed by spraying or soaking with sterile saline solution. It is important to dry your new piercing after cleaning it, you can use sterile non woven gauze, clean kitchen roll or a clean cotton pad. Do not use anything with loose fibres which could get wrapped around your jewellery. For nipple and navel piercings ensure that tight clothing is avoided around the piercing, as it can aggravate the piercing and prolong healing, similarly for ear piercings avoid tight helmets/headphones and earphones. We always advise that clothing, bed sheets and towels which come into contact with fresh piercings should always be regularly washed. How to clean your new oral piercing Anywhere near the mouth has a tendency to swell significantly when pierced, particularly if you are a smoker. A cold compress may help with swelling. It is important to maintain good oral hygiene whilst your piercing is healing, and to rinse out the mouth with clean water after eating. If you use mouthwash as a part of your daily routine then continue as normal, but it may help to switch to alcohol free mouthwash. What to avoid while healing We suggest that while healing care is taken to avoid unnecessarily touching your piercing or allowing any chemicals into the piercing site, for example make up, hairspray, hair dye etc. Avoid knocking your new piercing; causing trauma to a fresh piercing can be very painful and cause severe swelling and irritation, and prolong the healing of your piercing. Similarly sleeping on your piercing can delay healing and cause migration, a travel pillow may help. Downsizing For some piercings, particularly ear cartilage, tongue and lip piercings changing the jewellery to a shorter bar is vital for correct healing. Using a longer bar initially is good practise for accomodating swelling but prolonged wear can cause problems; ear cartilage can start to migrate or reject, the bar very often will shift down at the back from pressure during sleep and wearing poorly fitting tongue jewellery can result in damage to teeth and gums. We are always happy to help change jewellery, so please get in touch if you need any help! If you have any concerns, issues or questions whatsoever please don’t hesitate to get in touch, regardless of how silly or trivial you may think they are. We will always do whatever we can to help!
  • Does it hurt?
It can hurt to get pierced, though usually it isn't so bad. The initial pain does not last. It definitely helps to get a good nights sleep the night before your appointment, to make sure you eat breakfast and stay hydrated. If you're feeling well in yourself then it's usually very manageable.
  • Are piercings done with a needle or a gun?
I only pierce with single use needles, additionally the studio is completely disposable so any tools used for your piercing are disposed of immediately after your appointment.
  • What jewellery do you use?
I am committed to using the best quality jewellery that I can, using only implant grade materials such as ASTM 136 Implant grade titanium, niobium, or 14 or 18k solid gold. I'm proud to stock jewellery from Industrial Strength, Anatometal, Neometal, LeRoi, Junipurr and BVLA.
  • How should I prepare for my piercing appointment? What should I bring?
I want you to have the nicest time possible so please try to make sure that before your piercing you Avoid drinking alcohol or taking recreational drugs the days leading up to your appointment, but especially the night before. Try to get a decent nights sleep. Eat a decent breakfast. Bring valid photo ID with you if you appear under the age of 25. Please feel welcome to bring snacks and a bottled drink with you, whilst regulations mean that we cannot eat or drink in the treatment rooms I want you to feel comfortable and if you begin to feel unwell snacks and a drink always help!
  • What should I avoid during healing?
In the interest of hygiene and safety I would always recommend to keep your piercing clean whilst healing; avoid getting it dirty and if it does get dirty clean it as soon as you can, and make sure to dry it well (but gently) too. I would always advise to avoid catching or snagging your piercing, and avoid sleeping on it if you can. It can help if your piercing is in your ear to use a travel pillow for sleeping to minimise the amount of pressure applied to your healing piercing if you cannot avoid sleeping on that side. Donwnsizing at an appropriate time will help.
  • What should I do if my piercing gets infected or irritated?
If you have a problem with your piercing or you have any concerns at all please contact the studio immediately and we will do our best to help. Infections are rare but can happen, if it appears that you do have an infection I would always recommend visiting your doctor. Signs to watch out for include excessive pain, swelling or redness.
  • How long does it take for a piercing to heal?
Healing times can vary a lot from person to person depending on how healthy you are and your lifestyle. Softer tissues such as the lip and ear lobe can feel healed within a matter of weeks but the actual healing time will be a little longer, cartilage piercings take significantly longer to heal and many piercings would benefit from the jewellery being downsized during the healing process; this means switching the jewellery to shorter jewellery as the swelling subsides. If you do have any questions or concerns please feel welcome to get in touch.
  • Can I change my jewellery during healing?
Depending on the piercing and the jewellery type worn it may be possible to change your jewellery during healing but I would always recommend booking an appointment so that I can do it for you safely and even show you how your jewellery works if you aren't sure. During healing some piercings benefit greatly from being downsized which I would not recommend attempting yourself.
  • Can I get pierced with a ring?
Septum and daith piercings heal better with rings than bars, but for the majority of other piercings healing is easier and more comfortable with a bar. The size of the ring required for a fresh piercing is usually greater than you would want to wear and can increase the risk of snagging or catching your new piercing, which can delay healing further.
  • Can I bring my own jewellery?
I cannot pierce with jewellery you have brought with you for several reasons, but I have plenty of lovely jewellery available in the studio. If you have something in mind that we don't stock we can definitely discuss your ideas before hand and if it is something we can safely pierce with then we can order it in especially for you.
  • I'm pregnant! Do you have suitable jewellery for my belly piercing?
Congratulations! During pregnancy I would recommend removing navel jewellery over using 'pregnancy bars.' Provided the piercing is well healed there is a very good chance that when it comes to wanting to wear jewellery again it can be tapered open. Continuing to wear jewellery in your navel piercing during pregnancy can put a great deal of pressure on your piercing which can lead to irritation and even rejection and scarring.
